Summary - My take on what could have happened in the four months between seasons two and three. Spoilers - Everything up to and including 'LDYB, part 2'. Warnings - Physical, psychological and sexual abuse up to and including rape (not particularly descriptive but still fairly disturbing). Aditional warnings - 'Control' is not a happy fic. In fact it is about as far from a happy fic as you are likely to get short of a death fic. It is hurt without comfort but it is also part one of a two part series so there is hope yet (after all, it is not a death fic). It began life as a sort of challenge a few months ago when someone asked me for my take on how I would have had Leoben break Kara on New Caprica and then it really started taking form around Christmas when my mind was looking for a way to escape the hypocrisy of the season (nothing against Christmas itself, in fact I love a good Christmas get-together with people I care about but I freely admit that the hubbub and the madness that surround that particular holiday usually end up getting on my nerves). I ended up posting it around Valentine's Day because I enjoy plastic hearts about as much as I enjoy plastic trees. In other words think of this as my mind's idea of insulin when confronted with an onslaught of fake good cheer (for the record both 'Under Alien Skies-Propagation' and 'Friends and Foes' had similar origins). Anyway, originally I hadn't even intended to post it here because I felt that 'Control' was part one of a two part series and I had reasons to doubt that part two would ever be writtem due to the fact that I was unhappy with the direction the show was going (I'm still not happy about that, but that's a different story)... part two however, had other plans and I will probably start posting it next week. As for how this relates to canon and my other stories: as usual 'Shards' is my basis for where Kara is coming from but there are no specific references to it in this fic and 'Long Shadows' never happened in this universe, as for canon that is harder to say. It does not openly contradict it (at least not much) but seeing how canon is vague at best as to what happened in the four months between LDYB and 'Occupation' it is hard to tell. In my world 'Maelstrom' never happened and it probably never will. I guess that's it for now so I'll just shut up and let the story do the talking. | ||||

Broken Balance, sequel to Control Timeline/spoilers: This fic goes AU a couple of minutes before the end of 'Torn' so everything up to that point is fair game (there may also be some references to the flashbacks in 'Unfinished Business' somewhere down the line, but I'm still not sure about that). This is also a sort of sequel to Control but while being familiar with that story would make some things a little easier to understand, this one can definitely stand alone (Explanation: Control is my take on the four months between LDYB and Occupation but, seeing how this takes place after Torn, the deviations from canon should not be all that relevant, though there will be some references to non-canon events taking place in that period, however most of those references will be explained anyway).Warnings: This deals with some adult issues up to and including references to rape (though those references are non-descriptive and they refer to past events, nothing happens on-screen... or was that on-page?). Pairings: This is not a romantic story so I'm not sure how relevant pairings are going to be here, not to mention that I've had it with the whole 'love quadrangle of death' anyway. Just to be on the safe side let's say that there will be references to all canon pairings (Lee/Kara, Kara/Sam, Lee/Dee and maybe some hints of Adama/Roslin) but I don't know where this will end in that regard... or if it will end with a pairing at all for that matter. | ||||
